URBAN SYMPHONY
Chiang Mai Design Week
12/2024

Urban Symphony is a project aimed at fostering environmentally conscious behaviors by creating a recreational area where the energy of play itself generates clean power. This space promotes physical and mental well-being while also converting the movement and activity of play into sustainable energy for future use.
Inspired by the concept “Water is Life’s Mirror,” the project introduces playground equipment in vacant areas of Chang Moi community, located near the Mae Kha Canal, where pollution is a significant concern. Water, as a fundamental element of the world’s ecosystems, holds special meaning in Thailand, a country deeply connected to its waterways. This playground experience carries a vital message: when we care for water, nature responds positively; when neglected, the consequences can be severe, as seen with recent environmental disasters.
Through this interactive and sustainable design, Urban Symphony invites the community to reflect on how their actions shape the environment, creating a meaningful connection between play, energy, and ecological awareness.
The Power
A collaborative bicycle ride where participants generate energy through pedaling. As the light trail progresses, it visualizes the energy created. When all three light angles reach the top, the "jackpot" fountain scene appears. The energy generated is stored in batteries and later used to power the Chang Moi community.
The Breath
A trampoline platform that invites participants to help enrich the Mae Kha Canal with oxygen. Every jump creates the force to pump air into the water, culminating in a beautiful fountain display.
The Keeper
An art installation by Tananan Jaisawang, crafted from discarded household items, plastic waste from the Chang Moi community, and debris collected from the Mae Kha Canal. This piece symbolizes the community’s commitment to protecting their environment while turning waste into something meaningful.
